STAGING SOUND - OPEN IMPROV.
Open Experimental Jam/Improv Night
Tuesday 23 April 2008, 8.30pm
The Porter Cellar Bar, George Street, Bath

Staging Sound is a forum presented by Contemporary Art Talks Programme, in Bath on 23 April 2008, 7pm. Speakers include: David Cunningham, Lina Dzuverovic, Robin Rimbaud (aka Scanner). This forum will address the way in which artists choose to stage sound (whether that is as a performance or event, or as an ongoing installation or sonic environment), and the materials that they use to do so. It asks a panel of artists, writers and a curator to consider whether it is the temporal aspect that makes sound so appealing to artists and audiences or is it something else?

Following the forum will be an informal open jam session at the Porter Cellar Bar with an emphasis on the improvisational and experimental. We have invited sound artists, musicians and all other music/sound/noise makers to participate in this one-off event. It can be as relaxed and informal as you like, we are simply looking for some enthusiastic and confident participants used to working experimentally and collaboratively who can get the ball rolling! This session will draw out some of the ideas under discussion in the forum and give people the chance to continue the dialogue in a sociable and relaxed atmosphere.
