Hannah Rickards - Thunder
Central United Reformed Church, Bath
12 August - 11 September 2005
Hannah Rickards was invited to develop a new piece of work for Media Art Bath as part of the annual programme of artist commissions. She proposed making an artificial thunderclap with a small orchestra. This large scale sound installation, called Thunder, was produced and exhibited by Media Art Bath in the Central United Reform Church in Bath in summer 2005.
Thunder went on to tour to Liverpool School of Art and Design in December 2005. It was also shown at the South London Gallery in March 06 as part of their live programme where visitors to the project witnessed the live performance of the musicians involved as well as the completed sound installation.
Most recently, Thunder was shown as part of the Don Quijot exhibition at Witte de With in Rotterdam.
The final phase of Rickards' Thunder project was the production of the THUNDER Record, which includes the musical interpretation as performed by the eight-piece chamber orchestra conducted by Jason Lai, as well as the re-mastered man-made thunderclap. This was released by Media Art Bath in Autumn 2006 and is available from good bookshops nationally.
