The Otolith Group, Otolith III (2009)
The Otolith Group - Anjalika Sagar and Kodwo Eshun - works with media archives, histories of futurity, the legacies of non-alignment and tricontinentalism. The Group's artistic work explores the moving image, sound and text, and their film, Otolith III takes the legendary Bengali director Satyajit Ray's unrealised screenplay The Alien as its point of departure. The Alien, written in 1967, would have been the first science fiction film to be set in contemporary India, and Otolith III returns to 1967 to propose an alternative trajectory in which the fictional protagonists attempt to seize the means of production in order to create the conditions for their existence as images.
